Who We Are Top Banner

We’re part of Brother Industries Ltd., a global company with deep roots and big reach. Headquartered in Nagoya, Japan, Brother has been blending innovation with everyday practicality since 1908 — from crafting sewing machines to leading the way in printers, labelers, and smart office technology.

That same dedication drives our team here in Canada. From our head office in the West Island of Montreal to our distribution centres in Montreal and Richmond, and our sales hub in Toronto, we’re proud to stay connected to customers from coast to coast.

We’ve been building technology for over 100 years. What keeps us going? You guessed it - our people and the people we serve. That’s what At your side truly means.

Our Culture of Challenging Spirit

BE YOUR BEST – THAT’S BROTHER.

Our Culture Banner

Our Culture, Our Purpose

What makes this possible is our Challenging Spirit — a mindset rooted in curiosity, feedback, courage and the drive to do things differently.

It’s this spirit that pushes us to grow, take smart risks, and constantly improve. We’re a team of authentic, fun-loving, result-driven people who don’t just accept challenges — we seek them out. Because we know the best ideas, the best work, and the best version of ourselves comes from being bold, staying open, and showing up for each other. This mindset isn’t just talk — it shows up in how we work, take risks, support each other, and grow together.

We don’t just talk about culture — we live it. You’ll hear us refer often to our Culture Drivers because they shape how we work and how we treat each other:

• Accountability
• Authenticity
• Boldness
• Excellence

People First

We value kindness, humility, and curiosity in everything we do. Our teams are built on trust and authenticity, whether we're tackling a big project or simply catching up over coffee.

Who we are shines through the moment you walk through the door — from summer BBQs and kids’ parties to softball games, Brofests, and surprise ice cream trucks. These aren’t just perks; they’re how we stay connected. We care deeply, support each other, and make time to enjoy the ride.

OUR STORY

100+ Years of Brother

We're proud to be part of the bigger picture that is Brother Global and we're thrilled to deliver the Brother "at your side" experience to Canadians.

Like many successful companies, we began small. In fact, back in 1960, our first Canadian office was located in a one-room office and shared storage space. Many years later, in 1990, our current location was built on the premises of an old drive-in theatre. We’ve come a long way, as they say, and even though we’ve gotten bigger over the years, like a whole lot bigger, we’ll always remember our humble beginnings.

BONJOUR, CANADA!
Brother Canada’s story truly begins when Hal Kalker, one of Brother’s top American salesmen, sets up a modest sales base in Montreal. At the time, the city was Canada’s hub for garment manufacturing, finance, and industry — the perfect launchpad for growth. Kalker’s initiative paid off. He helped bring top-quality Brother sewing machines and typewriters to Canadian customers and sparked steady growth across the country.
