Joy of Sewing
A friend of mine that had recently emigrated to Canada, observed that “you Canadians go all out for the holidays”. Frankly, I never thought much about it until she mentioned it. Looking around my own home and in the stores, I saw what she meant. In Canada, we dress our homes against the winter chill with festive décor and themes for the holidays.
Sometimes we are a little over the top by creating “Santa Covers” for our toilet seats (I am not kidding, check out your local craft show and major retailer…they are there!) or dining room chairs. We also offer elegance with beautiful heirloom tablecloths and napkins, and mantle covers; beautifully sewn with patience and love, made to last for generations.
The most cherished décor are items that are personally made for specific occasions like your first home, birth of a child or an anniversary. We bring them out year after year to rekindle those special memories.
Sewing allows us to personalize our homes and our memories. So whether it is that “must have” a reindeer pillow or an appliqué tree skirt, sewing allows you to create a cherished memory or a giggle for the holidays.

TIP OF THE MONTH
Machine embroidery hoops are available in a variety of sizes from the small monogram size to professional size jacket hoops that are 360mmX 360mm. Hoops are designed to be used with a specific machines so they are usually not interchangeable between machines.
The size of the hoop you use will be determined by the design you are embroidering. To minimize movement of the fabric when embroidering, choose a hoop that is close to the design size. Movement of the fabric can result in stitches (as well as poor stabilizing) not aligned on the design.
