Environmental Program

The Brother Group’s environmental policy has always been clear: working towards sustainable development
by reducing waste through efficient use of resources, avoiding contamination when developing new technologies and minimizing environmental impact at every stage of a product's life-cycle.

Our commitment to the environment:

  • Brother Canada Cartridge Collection Program Brother Canada is asking you to help us in our efforts to reduce the amount of solid waste being sent to landfill. One of the easiest ways is to help us collect empty Brother supplies.

  • The 5R concept was developed by the Brother Group in Nagoya, Japan. Globally, it represents five environment-conscious words
  • Certifications Achieving ISO and other international certifications shows our deep commitment to our employees, suppliers and customers for whom we work and strive for quality. Our goal is to provide reliable, efficient and value-added services. As a Canadian corporate citizen, Brother is also committed to ensuring, improving, and meeting the needs and expectations of its various audiences in terms of environmental friendliness as well as high health and safety standards.
  • Several Brother products, including printers, faxes and multi-function centers (MFCs), are registered under the Energy Star program, which aims to reduce energy usage in electronic products. Click here for more information on the Energy Star program
  • Brother’s printers and MFC’s have adopted a printing system that reduces consumables wastage. This printing system has ensured that users no longer have to throw away a drum or inkjet print heads when the toner or ink cartridge has finished. Toners and ink cartridges may now be replaced separately. Additionally, all our models have a draft print mode to reduce the amount of toner or ink required for standard prints.
  • All Brother factories are ISO 14001 accredited, the global standard for environmental management
  • Brother has abolished the use of hazardous substances in manufacturing
  • Brother Canada’s facilities in Montreal and Vancouver are now ISO 14001 accredited
  • Brother Canada’s internal environmental policies include the recycling of all office paper, the use of recycled paper (where applicable) in marketing and product support tools, the use of duplex printing and copying to reduce paper use, and working with local authorities to recycle materials used in warehousing and shipping
  • Brother Canada is a member of the not-for-profit organization Electronic Products Stewardship Canada (EPSC), whose goal is to promote and implement sustainable solutions for Canada’s electronic waste problem. More information on EPSC
